The hour before my family awakes

Closing the bedroom door behind my husband, I close my daughters door too.
Tip toe down past the creaky stairs, to cuddle my dogs already waiting for me at the bottom.
One with a ball in its mouth, wagging his tail, the other stretching her tired old legs.
Cuddles and strokes and more quiet cuddles before I enter the kitchen alone.
The dishes need doing, but I just fill up the sink and let them soak, do them later I think.
Kettles needs topping up, just a little enough for my morning coffee and a biscuit or three.
It's still dark outside.
